FYI: This will not be my typical cons/pros format. I’m just going to tell you about Etude House’s Bubble  Hair Coloring.

This hair dye comes in seven shades–No. 1 Deep Black, 2 Dark Brown, No. 3 Natural Brown, Wine Red, 5 Sweet Oranges, Gold Bronze, No. 7 Mocha Pink. I bought Dark Brown because I have light hair, and I wanted to dye it darker.

I read many great reviews about it.  When I opened the box, I was happy to see all of the materials inside. It comes with a nice pair of gloves, as well as a plastic sheet to drape around your shoulders. It also comes with a conditioning hair treatment (which I definitely needed later >:c).

Bubble Hair Coloring is foam dye. All you do is add the pink pouch to the white foam dispenser. The box has English instructions, which helps with figuring out what to do.

A good amount of product is inside, so I had no problem covering my hair with dye. After I smothered it all over my hair, I left it on for 25 minutes. The box says to leave it on 20 to 30 minutes.

And 25 minutes later … my hair hasn’t changed at all. Also, my hair was a tangled mess–that’s where the hair treatment became necessary.

I had no product in my hair before dying it, and my hair was clean. I don’t understand how this hair dye did nothing to my hair–I am very unhappy and $6.50 short. Hmhp.

Maybe this hair dye only works for people with dark hair that want to make it lighter?

But then, why is there a black shade?

Koji: Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner (Deep Black)

31 Dec

I had wanted to try this eyeliner (retails for $16-24 online) for so long after reading the great reviews. I wasn’t disappointed, and I will be ordering it again!

It can take a little longer to dry than my K-Palette, 1-Day Tattoo liner pen. I say it takes about 15 seconds for it to completely dry. I made swatches on my hand to test this. However, this hasn’t been a problem. I can put it on and not need to worry about it smudging when I blink. This only matters if you rub it with your finger right away.

If you take water on your finger and rub the liner, it will rub off. This can be a plus or minus, depending on how strong you want your liner to be in water.

I love, love, love the applicator pen tip. The pen’s texture, firmness and length is the perfect combination to let me control the thickness. The tip is about 1.2 cm and reminds me of a calligraphy brush. It bends, but it is firm enough to allow you to put the right pressure on it to smoothly glide on the liner.  It is much easier to apply than the K-Palette liner, however I don’t think you can make quite as fine lines with the Dolly Wink liner. You still can make fairly thin lines to thick lines.

These are two swatches of the Koji Dolly Wink Liquid Liner. You can see it may bleed slightly.

Here is the liner's calligraphy style applicator. It makes it easy to apply.

I also like that I don’t need to apply any pencil liner on top to enhance the appearance (unlike my Smashbox, Limitless Liquid Liner Pen). The color is a solid black.

This liner will last you all day.

I give this five out of five stars.

It’s Been a While …

20 Nov

I apologize for not posting in so long! I’ve been busy with an internship and finishing school and the list goes on.

Let me tell you that I landed a teaching job in South Korea! I fly to Korea this Friday!

I will have a blog about my adventures there (, but I will keep up my Candy Box blog. Expect many Korean cosmetic reviews!

Thank you!

Smashbox: Limitless Liquid Liner Pen (Jet Black)

20 Nov

Store retail: $22

I purchased this liner at Sephora when I bought my D.J.V. Beautenizer. Fiberwig LX a while back. I love eyeliner pens–you get the gel eyeliner look with an easy application tip. After using the Japanese-brand K-Palette liner pen, I had high expectations.

I am not a fan of this tip. It’s fairly hard and not too flexible. The K-Palette, for example, was almost like a calligraphy brush, and the Smashbox tip feels like a stiff sponge.

This contributes to the ink not applying uniformly. If you push to hard or apply the eyeliner at a particular angle, it will leave the edges of the line darker than the center. Please see the image below to see what I mean.

Please click on the photo to see details! Notice how the Smashbox liner has darker edges (the pressure of applying the tip causes the liner to distribute uneven.

Because of this, I always go over the Smashbox liner with my Lioele Glittering Jewel Liner (black). This helps soften the edges and makes the liner look evenly colored and bold. The Lioele liner also gives the finished look a matte appearance.

Smashbox Limitless Liquid Liner Pen (Ink Black) only.

This liner completely dries in about 5 seconds–you can swipe it with your finger and it won’t smudge.

If the ink didn’t distribute uneven, I would really like the color. The ink is dark black. It looks somewhat glossy when you apply it (versus a matte finish).

I give this two and a half out of five stars.

Compared to other products for the same price/cheaper, I wouldn’t buy this again.

D.J.V. Beautenizer, Fiberwig LX

20 Nov

Store retail: $22

I bought his mascara at Sephora. It caught my eye because it said,

“This glossy, black formula contains double the fibers to lengthen lashes. As the formula goes on smoothly without clumping, it gives the appearance of naturally longer lashes and forms a film coating that prevents smudging caused by oils and perspiration.”

I actually bought this mascara a few months ago (and am just now writing the review). Just know that the photos reflect this.

This is a great mascara, but I tend to like eyelashes that look a bit more dramatic.

Before D.J.C. Beautenizer, Fiber Wig LX mascara.

After application of D.J.C. Beautenizer, Fiber Wig LX mascara. Note: This is after using product for a few months.

For those of you who like natural-looking lashes, this is a perfect mascara. The fibers in the mascara extend your lashes without looking thick or caked on. In fact, when I first used this mascara, my lashes were so long that they rubbed against my glasses!  The formula is not thick, which helps it appear natural. Also, don’t worry if mascara gets on your eyelid during application, just let it dry and then you can rub it off with a Q-Tip.

I give this four out of five stars.

Koji Dolly Wink: Lip Balm, cell phone strap

3 Mar

There isn’t much to say about this cut lip balm. When I bought it on eBay, it said “lip cream,” so it wasn’t quite what I was expecting.

It has almost a menthol smell to it, but more subtle. The lip balm will last a long time. I would like it if it was a bit softer and creamier, but it keeps your lips nice and soft!

Plus, it’s a cute charm to put on your cellphone.

I give it four out of five stars.
